Thematic Unit Using a Blog

A thematic unit I could incorporate into my ELL class is Health and Nutrition. I can have my more advanced ELL students have a discussion about health and nutrition in class. They can share about what they do to stay healthy or what they believe they should do to be healthy. I could share with them different websites and blogs where they can learn about health and nutrition. As an after class activity, I can have them reflect on what they learned about health and nutrition. I would also have each student look up a health tip from any site they believe can be helpful and share that site and tip on the blog discussion. Furthermore, I would also have them post two responses to other students’ posts.

Educational applications of Web 2.0: Using blogs to support teaching and learning

I found this article that shared some ideas about class activities that blogs can be used for (course homepage, after class reflections, course announcements, distribute class material, etc.).

It is an interesting article that concluded that blogs can be effective educational tools. It mentioned that useful blog activities for learning are reading others' blogs and receiving blogs. Take a look at it and share any interesting articles you have found about classroom blogging...

Hello all,

This is my first "Blog" site. I am not teaching this summer, but I plan to use this blog for extended learning with my English Language Learning students. Sometimes I'll use it for after class discussion for questions, concerns, or comments. Other times, it may be for what students learned during the class, what they didn't understand, or what they want more information about. I also plan to post some information on how to better your life (example: how to better organize ideas, relationship advice from websites, health news, etc.). If I find time, I like to watch Dr. Oz, Oprah, The Doctors, or just those type of talk shows, so if I come across interesting information from those websites, I want to share them with my learners and ask them to read about it write/discuss with classmates about what they learned and share their own experiences or advice if applicable. Any other advice would be appreciated, but those are my thoughts for now...
